What’s an MBA Worth To You?
Are MBA's worth the trouble? The New York times has a good story about the relative value of Ivy League MBAs. Now, I should point out that the traditional view of someone pursuing an MBA is that they are driven by greed. While that may be true in some cases, what motivated me was that an MBA from a good school opens the doors to a world of different opportunities. An MBA is the ultimate "Generalists" degree -- after architecture of course (ever wonder why the MIT Media Lab was founded by architects and is part of the Faculty of Architecture). Most of the other people in my program wanted to be better managers and/or wanted to make themselves indispensable to their companies.

Is greed a factor? Sure, or at least a motivation. Is it worth it? While their study of 19 Harvard MBAs shows that only 5 did well, the study answers:

"The Impact of Master of Business Administration Education on Graduates' Careers," it found that an M.B.A. from an accredited school, "has a positive impact on its graduates' employment, annual income, and job promotion in both short and long terms."
