The Tireless Sean Wise Presents The Dragon’s Den…
image
Just when I was thinking that the best thing a Toronto entrepreneur can do to succeed is move south, Sean Wise of Wise Mentor Capital sends an email that reframes my world view. Everyone who has met Sean knows he is a dynamo. Still, he's outdone himself this time.

Sean invites local entrepreneurs to be contestants on a new CBC Television show called The Dragon's Den. See his call for entrepreneurs below (For this Saturday!!!).

Sean writes:

Dear friends,
The last month has been really exciting here at Wise Mentor Capital . We have launched a blog, created a series of podcasts and participated in the production of a soon to be aired TV show. Can you believe it?

The Blog
My Blog, which is an extension of the column I write for the Globe and Mail, can be found at http://www.seanwise.com. I am planning on using it to take lessons on entrepreneurship and venture capital to the next level. It includes subsections on...

- The Startup Spotlight highlighting the best company I've seen that week (so feel free to contact me if you are startup)
- Have mouth will Travel covering the bootcamps, conferences and trade missions I participate in
- How Not to Suck @: covering best practices for start-ups

I hope you'll read it online or maybe even subscribe to it (just click): http://feeds.feedburner.com/WiseWords

The Podcast
If you have ever seen me moderate, then you know I love learning from experts and participating in active dialogues. Wise Words: The Podcasts will include short Interviews and discussions with entrepreneurial experts, technology gurus and financiers on a wide variety of topics.

You can listen to it directly from the blog http://www.SeanWise.com , subscribe to it at: http://feeds.feedburner.com/WiseWords and even through itunes and other podcatchers.

The podcast is being brought to by the IBDNetwork, home to the Dealmaker Forums and Under the Radar conferences for the best of Silicon Valley, for more on the IBDNetwork go to http://www.IBDNetwork.com .

The Show
This Fall, the CBC will be launching their version of the extremely successful BBC bussiness reality show, the Dragon’s Den. Dragons’ Den gives Canadian entrepreneurs the chance of a lifetime, 15 mins to pitch their big idea to a panel of 5 major league investors. Each “dragon” is successful in their own write, a seasoned angel investor and worth millions of dollars. This is 100% for real, even during the text tapings 2 weeks ago, actually deals got down. If you are seeking seed or angel money (<$250k) this is well worth trying out for.

My role in the production has centered around screening potential candidates for the show and providing industry expertise to the CBC folk. They have been great to work with and the process has been a lot of fun. When the show airs I will also be acting as the Online Host - providing commentary and content for the website.

Auditions are this week in Toronto and then across the country over the coming weeks. Check out http://www.SeanWise.com for more details on how to apply and to learn about the show from “Inside the Dragon’s Den”.

Thanks for reading and hopefully I’ll see you online real soon.

Hopefully Sean's energy will be contagious and spur the Canadian venture investment community to take more chances. So, unpack your bags. Go to his site. Sign up for the TV show. Make money. Prosper. There is hope - even here in Toronto.

  1. Tireless...rest assured readers, I’m exhausted. But if it helps get more founders seed money, then its worth it.

Casting call is this Saturaday at the CBC on John Street in Toronto.

Hope to see you all there....

    Sean
